How do you drill a rock with a drill bit?

To drill a hole in a rock using a drill bit, keep the bit steady and vertical, and align it properly. Lower the tip of the bit down slowly and apply pressure as you begin to drill. Squeeze the trigger of the drill slowly at first, then gain speed as you apply more downward pressure.

How do you advance a drill bit into rock?

To advance a drill bit into rock, you need to apply an axial force on the bit (to push it into the rock face), torque on the bit (to rotate it against the resistance of the rock face), and circulate fluid to clear the rock cuttings away from the bit as it generates more cuttings with its advance (see Figure 2-2 ).
